Well, if you don't know, Gay couples are FLOCKING to California (yes, the Schwarzenegger state) right now to tie the perverbial knot. Yep, it's a Gay Marriage free for all and Gay people couldn't be gayer... you know, the "happy" kinda gay. But as we speak, congress is trying (pretty well by the looks of it) to pass a law BANNING any future gay marriages. Will the constitution protect the gay rights like it should?
Probably not. It might be technically unconstitutional to ban it, something tells me the straight majority's gonna bend those rules. But who knows... anything could happen I suppose. Hell, I'd be happy to see it stay. Whatever floats your boat I say. I don't think people should be denied their basic human rights. Some people say that Marriage is a privelage, not a right. I say Bullflop to that. Aaanyway, here's a little politics for those who like that sorta stuff. In other news, people are getting their Dead Days books and they seem pretty jazzed about it! And they should! They kick ass! Specially for 3 bucks. Anyway, there are still some availiable if you wanna place your order. For all of you who sent your overseas order by mail, dont' worry, I've taken that into account and you will DEFINATELY get your book. Anyway, enjoy the politics, new Math Major Man coming soon! Thanks for reading all you! *sobs* I love you guys. -John |

Personally, I don't want to get married. However, the legal privledges - example: my dad is covered on my mom's health insurance because they're married - can be enough in itself. As shallow as that sounds.

&c.
here's what i think
the ban may or may not work.
i think it may be upheld for a while, then overthrown
the people in this country are so wrapped up in their individual rights that they fail to recognize that thier actions WILL in fact affect other people.
i, as a catholic, have a fear of raising children (in possibly as soon as a year or so) in a country that doesn't simply accept the fact that people who choose to live a homosexual lifestyle are humans... but they are treated in the public eye (media, entertainment) as martyrs.
the issue is handled so that if you (even in response to another's query) voice your belief against the concept of homosexuality, then you are immediately bludgeoned smartly about the face and neck with terms such as "close-minded", "bigot", and "christian gay-hater ass-tard"
i treat homosexuals the same way i treat any other human being... as human beings... worthy of respect and dignity. i wish no ill upon them, i wish them good health. but that doesn't mean that i'm going to agree with the choices they make with their life, or with their sex. obviously if a vote were to be had on the issue, i would vote for the ban. that is what i believe, that is my freedom of speech in action. the booth asks, and i respond.
and guess what? that is how a catholic, per catholic teachings, is supposed to treat them. with diginity and respect and without malice for the simple reason that they are human, and they are alive. but we, whether catholic or whatever, as americans, are not required to condone the choices they make AS humans. and if my children come home crying because i raised them to love gay people (but not condone their lifestyle) and someone at school called them a gay-hater and gave them shit about it... well then where is the freedom there? who is closeminded and hating then?
gay people are wanting to do something different. and if they were serious about it, they'd make something new for themselves, not try to change the very fabric of something they disagree with to make it their own.
they are asking to be able to take part in a type of union which their relationship does not describe.
i don't belive in judaism, throw me a barmitsfa... it just doesn't work.
to ask the catholic church to accept gay marriages doesn't make any sense. i know that's not what the issue is at hand, but take into thought the domino effect a legalization of gay marriages will create. its illogical to me for someone to suggest that the church should accept gay marriages... just as it would enrage some of you out there if i encouraged a homosexual person to turn straight.
and what of the separation of church and state? is that just a one way street? absolutely not. the government cannot tell any religion what their beliefs/sacraments/practices must/may not include.
i work in a hospital, and i work side-by-side with many people who are openly gay. it's a hospital run by nuns, and it provides service to anyone of any religion/race/whatever. it provides to humans... even those who can't pay. people keep reiterating that gays have just as much to contribute to society. i whole-heartedly agree. but it's not because they are gay. it's not because of how they decide to have sex. it's not because of what gender they are attracted to. it's because they are human. and it's because humans are capable of helping other humans.
it's imperative that we respect and work with gay people because they are human. but it is unreasonable to expect everyone to believe homosexuality is right. and we should be able to express that without being hated.
to hate is to want something/someone to go to hell, to wish ultimate distruction and evil upon it/them, and i wish that upon no one. absolutely no one.
