So my newspaper hit me up with a really dark assignment. The bastards.
They gave me a really sad story about animal testing facilities and the horrors within. The writer described a sad scene with a small mouse in a cage that had obviously been tested on, as his back has discolored skin that had been removed and stapled back on. He didn't think it was still alive, but when he approached, it cringed in horror and scurried to the far side of his cage. No comedy here folks.
So I wanted to make a piece to run with it as dark, sad and poignant as the story. I had this image of the cringing mousey in my head, but kept rearranging the angle of the shot I wanted to draw, each time making it harder and harder on myself. Finally I decided to make the shot from the Mouse' point-of-view, which meant a tough ass shot looking trough both walls of the cage to the bad scientist ahead. *shutter* Needless to say this took some time... and layers. Lots of layers. Anyway, I'm really proud of it and feel it catured the moment really well without making it too confusing. Hope you feel the saaaaaame way. Thanks for lookin'!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me

I love how you were able to capture the dark mood of the article while keeping your usual humorous tone found in your other comics. Excellent.
